Collaborative work is increasingly common in AV spaces and Extron have both wired or wireless systems that make collaboration easy for huddle rooms, conference rooms and classrooms. For stand-alone wireless collaboration Extron ShareLink™ wireless collaboration gateway allows small to medium size groups to work together with minimal wiring and AV infrastructure. ShareLink™ enables anyone to present content from a laptop, smartphone, or tablet on a display, transforming any meeting room into a collaboration space. ShareLink™ technology supports simultaneous display of slides, documents, graphs, and photos from up to four devices without needing a cable. It is compatible with Windows® and OS X® computers as well as Apple® and Android™ smartphones and tablets. It also includes a moderator mode to ensure only approved content is displayed. In spaces with sight line concerns, slides can be viewed on a personal device via a Web browser. The Kramer VIA range provide the perfect solution for wireless collaboration, with the latest addition to the family of products being the VIA Connect Plus. This provides simultaneous wired and wireless presentation and collaboration for a variety of spaces with no need for any additional hardware. This cost−effective solution includes all the benefits of VIA Connect PRO together with an HDMI input. With any laptop or mobile device, meeting participants can display or stream full uninterrupted HD video (up to 1080p60), images and documents, or share any size file. The whiteboard feature lets you annotate, sketch out ideas or edit shared documents on the main display from your device.

VIA Connect PLUS features iOS (MacBook, iPad and iPhone), Android (Lollipop OS 5.0 or newer), Chromebook and Windows (with VIAcast dongle) mirroring. You can show up to four user screens on a single main display. The VIA Versa feature allows users to wirelessly connect to the professional grade camera and AV in their meeting spaces easily and instantly.

Also available is the VIAcast dongle, which transforms any of the VIA products into a true BYOD presentation solution. When downloading and installing apps isn’t an option and navigating networks and passwords takes time you don’t have, VIAcast is the ultimate hassle−free presentation solution.

We were very pleased to have Jamboard from Google in attendance for the first time. Jamboard is the perfect solution for any organisation using the G Suite platform. The 55” 4K interactive display allows users to collaborate in “real-time” sharing ideas across multiple Jamboards, the internet or the mobile app. Drop images, add notes and pull assets directly from the web while collaborating with team members from anywhere.

With Jamboards incredibly responsive and accurate display, it feels natural to draw and sketch the way you would on a traditional whiteboard. Enrich your brainstorm with the best of Google Search and your team's work in G Suite: grab images and content from the web and bring them straight into your jam; pull in work from Docs, Sheets and Slides; even add photos stored in Drive.


Mersive Technologies attended the Universal AV Technology Event with their Solstice Pod. The first time in attendance, their stand was busy throughout the day. The Solstice platform offers a wireless presentation experience that puts content at the centre of every meeting. Fit for any meeting space – such as conference rooms, huddle spaces or classrooms – Solstice will help you spend less time setting up and more time collaborating.

Solstice blends award-winning technology, ease of use, and cost efficiency into a platform that enables teams to collaborate and innovate through dynamic, engaging, and inclusive meetings that can take place in any workspace. It offers contemporary and intuitive app-based content sharing that is the same on every user device and delivers best-in-class streaming performance. For guests and other occasional users that may not want to download the Solstice app, Solstice also supports Airplay and Miracast streaming protocols as well as a wired content source.

Solstice Conference seamlessly integrates Solstice’s intuitive, high-performance wireless content sharing with any video conferencing service to deliver a unified collaboration experience for both local and remote participants. Agnostic conferencing support allows anyone to easily host a web conference no matter which platform they use, increasing the flexibility of the conference room and reducing the complexity of meeting with remote workers or external stakeholders. With remote attendees viewing the same shared content and business applications that in-room users see on the display, teams can more effectively gain alignment and understanding, regardless of location.

Solstice Active Learning provides educators with a flexible, software-enabled solution for designing and using multi-screen environments for active learning. Rather than custom programming AV control for each room, our Active Learning app uses an intuitive drag-and-drop interface to virtually design and enable a new active learning space in minutes.

Once a space is enabled, moderators use the app to easily route video or broadcast messages on team displays, enhancing the teaching and learning experience.

We were very pleased to have NEC Display Solutions at the Technology Event for the fifth year running. No other vendor today can offer such a comprehensive and solution oriented portfolio. The only manufacturer of digital visual equipment able to supply all the major display technologies including Large Format, Desktop, Video Wall, Interactive Displays, dvLED Solutions and Projection. NEC is uniquely positioned to provide technology-agnostic consultancy recommending the perfect-fit solution to every application requirement. NEC Display Solutions brings together experts in the industry and offers a single point of contact to provide total display solutions for a variety of vertical markets.

NEC had on show a full range of product. The ultra-wide BT421 display offers a distinctive 16:4 format, which perfectly integrates into constricted environments such as along corridors, above doorways or within shelving. It has been engineered to provide ultra-reliable and compact wayfinding, advertising and information signage within transportation, healthcare, retail, cinema, and education sectors. The device is the perfect replacement for static and printed signage, enabling operators to harness the power of dynamic content to utilise new areas of the premises.

The new indoor LED digital poster was also on display, providing an all in one solution for a range of digital signage and wayfinding applications. Available as a 2.5mm or 1.9mm pixel pitch, NEC’s LED A Series provides a free-standing message board which demands attention with vivid, high contrast content that shines out with high bright LED brilliance. Robust enough for use in public spaces, the A Series is the ideal replacement for static roll-up banners. The dynamic content can be updated as needed to provide wayfinding assistance or promotional signage in hotel lobbies, convention centres, at trade fairs or in shopping malls.

Also amongst the highlights was their new range of Infrared Touch screen monitor. NEC’s all-in-one collaboration boards, come in three different sizes; 65”, 75” & 86”. They feature UHD resolution and up to 20 touch points. Based on infrared touch technology the user experiences perfect usability with a rapid touch response. Business and educational sessions start-up instantly with built-in whiteboard and wireless screen sharing functionalities without any hidden costs. The embedded annotation tool lets you annotate over any content shown on the screen.

For more demanding applications, the OPS slot provides the opportunity to enhance the computing power. With sizes including 65’’, 75’’ and 86’’, the NEC CB Series offers the ideal solution for your meeting and class rooms. All NEC CB Series displays come with three magnetic pens and a wall-mount fitting for easy installation.

In addition, NEC had their award winning P605UL laser projector. The projector is one of the quietest on the market, but delivers an amazing 6,000 ANSI lumen image projection, perfectly visible in brightly lit spaces. A new standard in silent operation, 19dB in Eco mode is quieter than the ticking of a watch and is unsurpassed by any other installation projector. With 4K@30Hz input processing, comprehensive connectivity and supporting WUXGA resolution, the future-proofed projector delivers an eye-pleasing visual experience. With NEC’s Install and forget, the projector requires zero maintenance over its long 20,000 hour life. The completely sealed optical engine and laser light source means filter and lamp replacement is obsolete; paired with a minimal power consumption of just 357W in normal mode, the P605UL ensures low operational costs. With optional Wi-Fi and embedded MultiPresenter function for wireless presentation and screen sharing, this is the ideal meeting room and classroom tool, but also meets the needs of rental and staging companies and digital signage use cases.

Panasonic Business Systems are a long standing partner of Universal AV and were present with their range of Pro AV laser projectors, 4K display and PTZ cameras. Renowned for its performance, reliability and quality, on display was the PT-RZ120 which combines outstanding Solid Shine laser technology with 1-Chip DLP imaging to produce vivid, accurate and immersive images. The projector offers high brightness of 12000 lumens, WUXGA resolution and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, while the System Daylight View 3 optimizes sharp and vivid images even in bright environments. With up to 20,000 hours of continuous maintenance-free operation. The dual-drive optical engine with dual phosphor wheels ensures reliable 24/7 operation with light-source failover protection, while the projector’s high-speed backup input switching helps minimise screen blanking during projection. Its efficient cooling system enables stable operation in ambient temperatures of up to 45°C (113°F).

Panasonic’s new range of 4K displays come in a range of sizes from 49” to 98” models with 500cd/m2 brightness. With 4 times the pixels of full-HD displays, the SQ1 series is more effective for showing visual information. The displays deliver high image quality through HDR support, displaying images with a wider luminance and expressing light and dark images more realistically. They offer an excellent solution for digital signage or for use in corporate, classroom and retail environments.

The SQ1 displays have robust professional-grade panels, suitable for continuous 24/7 operation. ADA compliant (with depth less than 4”/10cm with brackets), they can be safely installed in shopping aisles and conference rooms. It is possible to daisy-chain connection using DisplayPort input/output for multi-screens and adjacent displays, enabling the SQ1 series to be easily wired for use as signage in retail or public transport environments for instance. In addition, the 4K DIGITAL LINK feature can transmit high quality content as well as control signals through a single LAN cable reducing installation costs and complexity.

The SQ1 Series is equipped with a next generation function slot which is adaptable to Intel®Smart Display Module (Intel® SDM) specifications and enables signage to be operated with a third-party built-in PC. Features a 4K USB media player with playlist editing function – use the simple remote controller to edit a playlist with picture or video files downloaded onto a USB memory stick and show the content on the display. Failover and failback function immediately switches the system to alternative signals if the main video and audio signals are interrupted. Multi-monitoring and control software support stable operation and reduces the hassle of maintaining and managing devices on the intranet.

Also on display was their range of professional remote cameras that support UHD and Full-HD recording capabilities for a wide range of applications via IP. Universal AV has seen a dramatic growth in e-learning within higher education for lecture capture, from live streaming to corporate use in auditoriums, our remote cameras support the most difficult of shooting conditions in both indoor and outdoor situations.

Panasonic provide a comprehensive range of cameras for all environments. All function with Panasonic’s Auto tracking software, which uses facial recognition to allow the camera to follow the speaker during the lecture, so no need for a separate camera operator. Additionally, you keep students’ engagement at the highest avoiding large wide angle views not focused on the teacher.

With easy integration to existing lecture capture platforms, such as Panopto, the Panasonic system provides a perfect solution to the HE market.

Peerless AV were in attendance with the Xtreme™ high bright outdoor displays. Featuring a fully sealed, IP68 Rated design and a patented Dynamic Thermal Transfer System, Xtreme™ High Bright Outdoor Displays are maintenance-free, with no fans, vents or filters, and are fully protected against water, dust, moisture and even insects. The display’s cover glass is optically bonded, which increases the perceived contrast ratio and cuts down on glare, providing amazing picture quality even in direct sunlight. With an operating temperature range of -35°C to 60°C, Xtreme™ Displays are designed to thrive year-round outside, without worry of extreme hot or cold temperature waves. This High Bright line of commercial displays come in 43”, 49” and 55” sizes and offer 2500nits of light output to combat high ambient lighting conditions, while the ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the display’s brightness to optimize the power consumption and enhance the viewing experience. Providing unmatched capabilities, Xtreme™ High Bright Outdoor Displays are the perfect digital signage or entertainment solution for any professional application.

In addition, Peerless AV provided their indoor portrait kiosks to guide the Universal AV customers to the event. A range of options are available from All-in-One kiosk (complete with a digital touch screen powered by BrightSign), single and back-to-back kiosks, Peerless AV can accommodate any requirement; indoor or outdoor. With a flat base that can be free standing or bolted to the ground, the kiosk allows for electric and data cable access, making it easy to install and maintain. Plus, the kiosk includes two whisper-quiet, thermostat-controlled exhaust fans to ensure the display and internal components are kept at an optimal temperature. To maintain a clean aesthetic, the kiosk offers an internal tray for media players and cables, as well as lift off, bi-level rear doors that provide direct access to parts requiring maintenance. For theft protection, the kiosk features keyed-alike cam locks specific to the kiosk. Available to accommodate a range of screen sizes from 40” to 65”, the new kiosk is an ideal solution for various indoor application settings, including corporate, retail, and hospitality.

Philips Professional Display Solutions presented their range of professional TV’s with embedded Netflix. The MediaSuite is the latest addition to Philips’ professional range of TV’s and comes with Chromecast built in and easy access to the Google Play Store give you the edge when it comes to engaging guests. Android-powered Philips Professional TVs are fast, versatile and easy to navigate. The TVs are optimised for native Android apps and you can install web apps directly to the display, too. Automatic updates ensure apps stay up to date.

With built in Chromecast you can enable hassle-free wireless casting of movies, presentations and more from smart devices (mobiles, laptops, tablets). Chromecast is cost-effective, requires no extra hardware and is secure for professional use. Users simply tap the Chromecast icon on their smart device to start streaming content from thousands of cast-enabled apps — their smart device becomes the remote.

With one-touch access to the Google Play Store, it's easy to add apps, games, music, movies and more to your Philips Professional TV.

Polar have been a partner of Universal AV for many years, but this was their first time at the Technology Event. With new and exciting Cloud-based hardware and software solutions coming on stream, Polar is well-placed to give insights into effective deployment of these technologies, allowing AV, IT and Facilities Managers to clearly understand the ROI on their use. These include solutions to improve productivity and simplify meeting room management for an improved user experience, including integration with platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Slack and the use of AI to learn user preferences.

On display, Polar had the latest AVoverIP range from Zeevee Inc. They offer the most comprehensive AV Video Distribution products to fit any application. Whether its bulk TV distribution to your students across a university campus or providing super low latency video to operating room theatres, ZeeVee has an AV product to fit any possible video distribution need. ZeeVee's core applications include AV routing and switching, bulk television distribution, digital signage distribution and user-generated content broadcasts.

Also on display was the beyerdynamic Conference System. Quinta is more than a wireless conference system, the product range includes not only microphone units with gooseneck microphones and Revoluto array microphones, but also wireless handheld microphones, which provide the same functionality as the microphone units. The wireless boundary microphones can be used as microphone or conference microphone unit. Quinta is already the 5th generation of wireless conference systems from beyerdynamic – digital, flexible, safe.

Orbis is a digital wired conference system which combines demanding design and discreet integration in high-quality furnishing. Conference systems by beyerdynamic stand for the best audio quality and highest quality standards – “Made in Germany”. Modern design, ease-of-use, operational reliability and high-quality materials are now what make this new conference system stand out. Depending upon the requirements on the design and room acoustics, gooseneck microphones in various lengths or Revoluto array microphones can be used, which allow for greater freedom of movement while maintaining a consistent volume. The line system topology allows the operation with a maximum of 100 microphone units using one control unit. If the system is connected in a loop to achieve the redundant operating mode, a maximum of 50 microphone units can be connected to one control unit. A set up with all microphone units in a loop ensures a system redundancy with a maximum operational reliability. Even when a defect within the cabling of the microphone units or a failure within the microphone units occurs, the conference system will still be powered from the other end of the loop.

Sony Business Solutions once again brought their A game to the Universal AV Technology Event. Centred around TEOS, Sony demonstrated how their award winning Workplace Management Solution can be deployed to enhance any business organisation. With personalised signage, efficient room booking and technologies to enable more efficient communication and collaboration, Sony TEOS helps make the smart workplace a reality.

Sony TEOS has recently gone through a major upgrade which makes the interface easier to navigate allowing any organization to optimize how it uses its devices, space and time to unlock the true potential of your workforce. TEOS Manage is a complete AV and IP device and room management solution for corporate and large education environments. Powerful, flexible and easy to use, TEOS Manage empowers your IT department to efficiently manage, schedule and monitor the content across all your networked screens, projectors and display devices.

Developments in TEOS 2.1 saw the introduction of TEOS TV, Wayfinding and Video wall content management. TEOS 2.2 sees improvements in management with the control of Building/iOT controllers, allowing for the easy automation of the workplace; control when lights power on/off, temperature levels etc., automatically through actions and notifications based on iOT, AV, external datasources, calendars and much more. Easily add sensors and iOTdevices in TEOS to access a complete new level of workplace management (occupancy, light, CO2, etc.) for workplace automation, room management, desk booking, signage & analytics.

TEOS Meeting Display is a new add-on to set a complete meeting interface for meeting room displays, with automatic meeting agendas, end meeting alerts, smart input automation, analytics & much more.

TEOS Room Booking has been improved with the introduction of a room status, which easily allows the user to display rooms/desks overviews and status in public areas, without any advanced configuration. In addition, with the new add-in for employees to use Outlook very simply to manage their room bookings, invite guests and do one-click mirroring in meeting rooms, without opening any other application.

With TEOS Screensaver you can automatically push “screensavers” signage content on devices not-in use, in or outside meeting rooms (room booking tablets, meeting room displays, etc.)

TEOS Tenants Management enables organisations to manage meeting rooms they are renting to other companies, called “tenants” within TEOS, with activity and quotas management

WolfVision GmbH is a manufacturer of presentation, collaboration, and knowledge sharing systems and solutions based in the Vorarlberg region of Austria. A long standing partner to Universal AV, this was their first appearance at our Technology Event. They presented our customers with CYNAP; a powerful all-in-one wireless presentation and collaboration system, featuring a media player, web conferencing, recording and streaming, BYOD wireless screen sharing, and annotation functionality. In addition, vSolution MATRIX, an AV over IP-based collaboration solution which uses multiple CYNAP/CYNAP Core units to stream video and audio between multiple screens using existing network infrastructure. 

The CYNAP family consists of four products

·       CYNAP Pure - A compact BYOD wireless presentation solution, perfect for classrooms, meeting rooms, and huddle spaces of all sizes, where high quality, easy-to-use, wireless screen sharing onto a central shared screen is the primary focus.

·       CYNAP Pure Pro - With all the functionality of Cynap Pure, plus some of the features of our larger Cynap systems, Cynap Pure Pro is an ideal add-on to existing infrastructure, providing high performance wireless screen mirroring, combined with a range of popular collaboration tools.

·       CYNAP CORE - Easy to use collaboration system, providing “core essential” collaboration features. Advanced network integration options make it an ideal centrepiece for smaller installations, and it is also a key component of our MATRIX active learning classroom solution.

·       CYNAP - A powerful all-in-one wireless presentation and collaboration system, featuring a media player, web conferencing, recording and streaming, BYOD wireless screen sharing, and annotation functionality. Also the “main station” of our MATRIX collaboration solution.

 vSolution MATRIX is an AV over IP-based collaboration solution from WolfVision designed for larger active learning classrooms and collaboration spaces where multiple workstations are required, CYNAP and CYNAP Core systems can be integrated together into existing network infrastructure, providing a truly scalable, high performance AV over IP collaborative working and learning environment.  Available as a feature pack upgrade for CYNAP systems, it is ideal for active learning classrooms, training rooms, and courtrooms of all sizes. A single feature pack enabled Cynap unit, designated as the ‘main’ system in the room, is connected to multiple workstations with either a Cynap or a Cynap Core system installed. Content is shared between connected monitors and the main screen in the room with all processing performed by the installed Cynap systems themselves.
