All three were on the menu in abundance at the Universal AV Services Technology Event run at the Queens Hotel, Leeds on the 5th March.

Universal AV have always taken a partnership approach with customers and it is this approach that has kept the Universal name firmly cemented in our customer’s minds for 30 years.

Each year Universal AV has worked with suppliers in order to ensure that employees are kept up to date with the latest trends in the industry and the technology available. 2019 saw a change in the format though with customers being invited to a much larger event.

2020 sees Universal AV turn 30 and this year’s event was to be even bigger.

The Event opened at 9am to staff on the Thursday morning. Universal AV see staff training as fundamental in its ability to provide the best possible service to customers. So much so we have developed our own apprenticeship program which is incredibly successful.

Members of the team visited each supplier to ensure they could receive training and see the latest in product sets. Most of the technology had arrived direct from Amsterdam and ISE. Universal AV hosts the event so close to ISE so that suppliers are able to showcase the latest product launches.

Delegates began to arrive at 12 for lunch and opening. We have to admit we were a little worried about delegate turn out, whenever you host an event you always are however with the scare of the Coronavirus hanging over us we were waiting to see the footfall.

Our customers did not disappoint and turned out in force. One even commented he was delighted that something on this scale was being carried out in the North.

Delegates were welcomed with goodie bags, the essential exhibition survival pack and lunch where Universal AV Managing Director Nick Fitzpatrick welcomed everyone and was joined on stage by Paul Milligan, Editor of InAVate.

Partnerships was the key focus
Paul talked about how the Supply of AV is actually about relationships, NOT (Say it quickly) the technology. The technology changes, it is the relationship and trust that lasts.

Nick joined in the session and they discussed how what is key for a customer when picking an integrator. Universal AV have created relationships that have lasted 30 years and noted that you need someone that you can trust.

All integrator's will carry out work and probably do it well, but what is important is ensuring that they understand what you need as a business or organisation in order to work, not just what they think you need (want). The number of times we have been brought in to correct an installation or remove technology that another integrator has installed. It is always the same, we get told by the customer “we never use it” and it is usually that they have been oversold something and the integrator has not taken the time to assess their ways of working and have provided a solution that will work. We can categorically state that we do not work that way at Universal AV; the number of times our Project Manager’s and Sales team say, “but why do you need that”, “what are you actually going to use that for?” When we talk about a brief we talk about what you work like and what you would like to achieve, technology comes in much later once we have ascertained that.

The showcase opened and we were delighted with customer reaction. Our suppliers had really taken the time to collaborate and work together to showcase solutions as opposed to technology on its own which really did provide the wow factor.
